The Lake County Historical Society began as the Lake County Old Settler’s Association on September 25, 1875, following a notice published in Crown Point newspapers. The original scope of this association is as follows:

The first permanent officers of this association were:

  • Oscar Dinwiddie, Recording Secretary (1875-1877, 1879-1881)

  • Rev. T.H. Ball, Historical Secretary (1875-1913)
  • J.H. Luther, Treasurer (1875-1875, 1880-?)
