About the Society

The Lake County Historical Museum is operated by the Lake County Historical Society. The Society is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization.

Society History

The Lake County Historical Society began as the Lake County Old Settler’s Association on September 25, 1875, following a notice published in Crown Point newspapers. The original scope of this association is as follows:

“The objects of the Association are to renew old associations, to recover old events and to enjoy a few pleasant hours together.”

The first permanent officers of this association were:

  • W.A. Clark, President (1875-1881, 1891-1899)
  • Oscar Dinwiddie, Recording Secretary (1875-1877, 1879-1881)
    •  Additionally served as President (1899-1908, 1917-1920)
  • Rev. T.H. Ball, Historical Secretary (1875-1913)
  • J.H. Luther, Treasurer (1875-1875, 1880-?)
